About Cape Breton Sailing Charters
Cape Breton Sailing Charters sails the Bras d'Or Lake from St. Peter's, a village in Richmond County on the south end of Cape Breton Island. Captain Greg keeps his sailboat, No Rush II, at a private dock next to the St. Peter's Canal National Historic Site, where the canal links the lake to the Atlantic.
Private trips come in two main lengths: a three-hour half-day sail and a six-hour full-day sail, both priced for two guests. For longer voyages, the Bras d'Or Lake Crossing is an all-inclusive three-day, two-night trip for up to six people that sails across the biosphere reserve, stops at historic sites such as the Bell estate in Baddeck, and includes meals and lodging ashore. The season runs from July to mid-September.
These charters are hands-on. Guests can take the helm, trim the sails and help with navigation, with instruction for every skill level, or simply sit back and watch the shoreline go by. It is a good way to learn the basics of sailing on protected water.
