About Oshan Whale Watch
Oshan Whale Watch operates from Bay St. Lawrence, a fishing harbor at the very northern tip of Cape Breton Island, about 10 km north of the Cabot Trail. The Fraser family has lived in northern Cape Breton for more than five generations, and Captain Fraser brings over 35 years at sea, 30 of them as captain.
Tours run aboard the Oshan, a 42-foot Coast Guard approved fishing and touring vessel, and last two to two and a half hours. The season runs from July 1 to September 30, with daily departures at 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Common sightings include long-finned pilot whales, white-sided dolphins, minke, humpback and fin whales, gray seals, and seabirds such as bald eagles, guillemots and cormorants.
The location is the draw. Bay St. Lawrence gives quick access to the deep water off the cape where whales gather, and a 42-foot boat with a local family skipper suits passengers who prefer a larger deck to a small inflatable.
