About Cape Smokey
Cape Smokey is a year-round mountain resort on the Cabot Trail at Ingonish Beach, on the northeast coast of Cape Breton Island. Long known as Ski Cape Smokey, the hill added Atlantic Canada's first gondola in 2021, and the summit looks straight down the coast over the Atlantic.
In winter the resort runs alpine skiing and snowboarding with snowmaking and grooming, a ski school for lessons, and an on-site rental and retail shop for skis and boards. In summer and fall the gondola makes an eight-minute ride to the top, where guests can hike a 5 km round-trip trail to Hawley's Lake, ride designated mountain bike paths, play disc golf or mini golf, and take in the lookouts. E-bike rentals in two- and three-hour blocks and kayaking on Hawley Lake are also available, and The Slope Bar and Grill serves food on site.
Cape Smokey pairs an ocean-view ski hill with a summer program built around the gondola, so one stop covers winter skiing, summer hiking and an e-bike ride, all a few minutes from Ingonish Beach and the national park.
