About Capt. Mark's Whale & Seal Cruise
Capt. Mark's Whale & Seal Cruise runs whale watching tours from the harbor at Pleasant Bay, a small fishing village on the Cabot Trail between Cheticamp and Cape North. Captain Mark has been taking visitors out on the Gulf of St. Lawrence since 1994.
Tours run on twin Zodiac rigid inflatable boats that carry 12 passengers each. Both boats have dual motors, and a flat-bottom hull lets them work close along the coastline, where pilot whales, finbacks, minke and humpback whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds are regular sightings. Departures run twice daily in June and three times daily from July through September, with tours lasting about two hours.
The boats carry a hydrophone, so when conditions allow, guests can hear whales vocalizing underwater as well as seeing them at the surface. The Zodiac pontoons also cut down on the rolling motion of a traditional hull, which makes these trips a good choice for passengers who worry about seasickness.
