About Mountain Surf Paddle Sports
Mountain Surf Paddle Sports is a stand up paddleboard and kayak specialist based on Gatewood Road in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Rather than running whitewater, the company works the calm water around the New River Gorge, taking paddlers onto Summersville Lake, the flatwater stretches of the New River and Kanawha Falls.
Guided tours are the main draw, with sunset and full moon paddles on Summersville Lake alongside daytime trips past the cliffs and hidden coves that most visitors only see from the rim. Boards, paddles, personal flotation devices and instruction are all included, and photos of the trip come free. They also rent paddleboards and kayaks by the half day, full day or multi-day for people who would rather set their own schedule, and they run group classes and private lessons for paddlers working on technique.
They take children as young as three on the water, which makes them one of the few operators in the gorge that suits families with small kids. Open seven days a week through the season, they also offer paintball on the property and a retail store, so a booking can turn into a full day without leaving the site. Private group trips are available for reunions, bachelorette parties and company outings.
