About West Virginia Adventures
West Virginia Adventures runs whitewater trips from a base on Sunday Road in Hico, West Virginia, sitting between the New River and the Gauley so guides can reach either river quickly. It is a family owned and operated outfitter, and the same crew has been putting boats on these rivers for well over a decade.
The trip list starts with beginner-friendly float sections of the New River that suit younger children and first-timers, steps up through intermediate Class III and IV days, and tops out with full-day advanced runs. Through the fall release season they add Lower and Upper Gauley trips, which draw experienced paddlers from across the country. Photo packages are shot on the water by a partner service so guests are not trying to keep a phone dry, and gift cards cover the whole range.
Cabins on the property let groups stay the night before an early put-in rather than driving in at dawn, which matters during Gauley season when trips leave early. The outfitter caters well to bachelor and bachelorette parties, company outings and family reunions, and the Hico location puts Summersville Lake, the Gauley put-ins and downtown Fayetteville all within a short drive.
