About New River Mountain Guides
New River Mountain Guides is the longest-running rock climbing guide service in the New River Gorge, working out of East Wiseman Avenue in Fayetteville, West Virginia. The company has guided the gorge for around 30 years and holds AMGA accreditation, which puts it in a small group of American guide services assessed against national standards for instruction, risk management and business practice.
Day trips run from a two-hour rappel through half-day and full-day climbs to family outings and next-day VIP bookings for people who decide on short notice. The instruction side goes considerably deeper: AMGA Single Pitch Instructor courses, top rope anchors, learn to lead, crack climbing technique, trad gear and anchors, multi-pitch skills and Warrior's Way mental training. They also run teen rock camps, yoga retreats and She Moves Mountains women's programs.
All equipment and instruction are provided and no previous experience is needed, so a group can mix complete beginners with climbers working on a specific skill. The sandstone in the New River Gorge is some of the best in the eastern United States, and having certified guides who climb it year round means trips get matched to the conditions and the party rather than run to a fixed script.
